Bank of England Museum
Weekdays from 31st March 2014The Bank of England Museum tells the interesting story of the Bank of England from the beginning - in 1694 - right up until the present day. The Bank plays a vital role in the UK's financial world, issuing bank notes, setting interest rates and helping to maintain stability. The Museum displays many interesting historical artifacts including gold bars (one of which worth over £400,000 which can be touched!) original banknotes, and has had informative exhibitions about many things including the security of the banknote, gold and stories of the important people who have their faces on the banknotes.
The museum will now display some of it's most interesting items from the archive in an exhibition "Curiosities From The Vaults" Some of these items have never seen the light of day so this is a rare chance to see some treasure - including Lawrence of Arabia's camel sandbags which he used to carry gold across the dessert, early sketches of banknotes and the first printing plates & test prints, and a visitors book from the Bank's visitors during the 17th century.
